Active Shooter!
We hear this all over, sometimes and not ever for some communities want to keep these events to a low key
An Active Shooter Event that turns deadly, "2 dead and shooter commits suicide".
Questions like: How do we avoid these and the areas they happen in?
Well, we just don't. How would one protect themselves from one of these folks intention on causing harm? Nobody has an answer, and if they say they do, I say they are lying.
The best bet is to be vigilant and have your head on a swivel, or live the color codes of awareness that Colonel Jeff Cooper put together in World War II for civilian use.
Be aware of your surroundings, (not being paranoid, just aware) make eye contact with those around you. Walk with purpose, and know every time you walk into a room, you have 2 exits that you can use. Doors are best, but windows can be secondary if necessary.
Also, if you are a licensed to carry firearm and carry, please seek proper training prior to carrying, for there have been incidents involving a concealed carrier trying to intervene but had little to no training prior and either never got far into the grip of their firearm and threw their weapon instead of drawing and firing, or completely missed their intended shot.
Also, concealed carry holders, you are not obligated to intervene, and if you do, you accept all responsibility for every round that your firearm discharges at the scene. Remember this, if you had to dropped the watch your significant other has given you that fell into a shark tank would you go in after it? Now how about if your loved one(s) fell into that same tank, would you jump in or fear death or disfigurement ?
Be sure if you are to intervene it is worth dying or going to jail over. The answer will come to you at the time if you choose to make a decision.
Until next time, take care and stay safe!
Train often, train smart.
