Choosing the right firearm for self-defense.

Image
This choice is personal, and unlike any other decision you have made for self-defense. Just owning any "cool looking" gun that cost a ton of money and have not done any training with it is dangerous, and could potentially have an unwanted outcome if the need to use it exists. Here are 3 deciding factors upon selecting a firearm for self-defense. 1) Your decision on a firearm is personal, it must fit correctly in your hand. 2) Cost is another huge decision as well, because with the cost of the firearm, you will need to be able to afford the ammunition and training as well as the gear (holsters, lights, etc.) 3) Your decision has been made to purchase a firearm, the gear and ammunition. Well, what is next? Your training regiment should include a basic course on how the firearm operates, and the needs of your firearm obviously (will it operate the way you need it to in an immediate response to a thr...

Before/After School Stranger Dangers!

Image
STRANGER DANGER!!  It is that time of year again!  School is here, activities are here, and stress of everyday life has begun once more for 9 and a half months. What can we do to make sure our children are in the right place at the right time, and keep them safe and secure while we go about our day going to work, paying bills, getting groceries, picking the dog up from the vet, get the dry-cleaning from the cleaners, picking up trash in the yard, yard work, and getting food on the table.. Geesh! Now, how about getting the kids to and from school?  Maybe 15% of us adults take our kids to school ourselves due to timing of our jobs, and then there are walkers and bus takers. In that time when we can not take our kids to school, we trust that we live in perfect neighborhoods and nothing could happen between home, the bus and the walk to school. Unfortunately, time has taught us again and again that there are strangers out there who wish to harm our kids for some se...

Carrying without any Classes Under your belt?

Image
If you are in State that does not require you to complete a course before your get your concealed carry permit, and you do not seek a class, this makes you not only dangerous to yourself, but others as well!             It is recommended that you obtain at least 2 classes, one class being a Fundamentals course or Basic Handgun course, and then a Handgun  Self-Defense Course.             You  might be saying... that can get expensive.  Well, can you afford not to take a course? ("I am defending myself, the police will know this when I tell them", or "I am not a bad guy, I pulled my gun to stop the threat, I can't get into trouble for this!") This is exactly why you need to take a course, this type of thinking can drain your accounts quickly if you need to defend yourself or a  loved one.   ...

Grip, it can keep your marksmanship skills high on the mark!

Image
A solid grip platform will give yourself an edge when it comes to handgun control during the firing cycle to acquire a follow through shot at your target.                                As you pick up your handgun, firmly grip the pistol with the "V" of your hand, and grip with the middle, ring and pinky fingers, the thumb and forefinger does nothing at this point.  Most of your grip is here with the "V" of your hand or web between the thumb and forefinger.                Think of grip starts from the "V" of your strong hand, or shooting hand and as a force being applied to both sides, similar to a yin and yang, but a solid forward force.  Your shooting hand  is twisting forward, and support hand twisting back with same type of force.  Your hands covering the entire grip of the hand...

What to look for in an instructor!

Image
When looking for a firearms instructor, it is natural to have questions. DO NOT WORRY, we all start somewhere and need to trust someone. I remember having so many "professionals" give me advice when I started out.  They weren't really reliable sources needless to say. Patience and kindness will always prevail.  Most instructors will give you advice and point you in the right direction, or classes they may have according to your needs. My instruction starts you off from the first grip of your weapon to your first shots, to review, to fixing any quirks you may have developed from training on your own. If you have needs for job related firearms training, please ask! I can help you find the training you may need. Always remember to train smart, train often, and as always, safe! Best Carry Holster?

Image
Best Carry Holster? From my opinion, the one that works the best must be comfortable to wear all day, to be able to draw from a seated position whether it is in a car, a chair or couch at home, or in public such as a theater, a restaurant booth, etc. Try to decide which is your style carry, what works for me may be different from your opinion, and dress options. My personal choice is an inside the waistband strong side holster, I have found it to be comfortable and I personally enjoy the benefit of being able to wear a lot of different options with the Crossbreed SuperTuck Series, as well as their Executive Belt. I can wear shirt tucked in, or hanging out, keeping my firearm concealed. I can draw quickly from it in varying positions including inside the vehicle, manipulating the seatbelt. Texas Man shot by Victim

Image
In Texas on July 5, 2018 a man tried to carjack a vehicle as the owner was paying the bill, she got back in her vehicle and was able to retrieve her handgun after telling him to stop, she shot him in the face, forcing him to stop driving. I was reading this article and thinking great job to the mother of two, inside the car was two small children.   What a great immediate responder and concealed carrier she is, she saved the lives of those two children.  I read on about how she should have "killed" him, and one wrote "that's what they teach at CCW class". I want to comment on that mentality.  What I teach in my CCW classes is not to "kill", I teach you to keep shooting until the threat has ended period.  She shot him one time in the face, and no other shots were necessary, the threat ended.
